I finally swopped-out my radio-tape for a nice new Alpine CD/USB head-unit.

One of the rear 4.5" speakers was faulty, so I had a pair of Pioneer 5.25" twin-cones fitted.

Problem:  It sounds bad.  Clipped off the rear speaker covers and it was clear why.  The drivers were so badly installed, that there was no seal around the frame, and they were literally dangling in position by a single screw.

What ever possessed me to allow the car-sound shop to install the system - I usually do this sort of thing myself.
Anyway, the dude that fitted the speakers, adapted the mounting ring to suit the larger Pioneer drivers, and well and truly butchered the whole assembly.

This whole experience has got me thinking about upgrading all 4 speakers.

1999 Forester.  2 x 6.5"drivers up front with the option to add tweeters next to the door handles.  Rears were 4.5" but perhaps 5.25" will be better.
The current front speakers are single cones.  Odd, I guess the designers intended the treble to come from the rear speakers / or the optional tweeters.

Looking for a nice punchy clear sound - no sub required.

Any recomendations for 6.5" splits for up front, and 5.25" 2 ways for the back.  Please bear in mind that I will only be using the head-units speaker outputs - no extra amps.

Budget:  No more than R999.  Location:  Cape Town.
