I was told the other week that Aberdare ( a local electrical cable manufacturer) is to change its ripcord range. Apparently the thicker ripcords for mains use (say 1.5mm+) are likely to come in a flatter jacket to distinguish them. The round ones will be sold as 24volt cable.
Apparently there have been Chinese rip cord imports made from copper plated steel wire that run hot under max load and have started some fires.
Does make me wonder about those real cheap thick imported speaker cables that sometimes seem to sell for less then local electrical wire. They would not start a fire but I remember the change on some old sennheisers being distinct when moving from steel to copper wire.
