Comet fm tuner help needed

I bought this and want to get it up and running. Don't have any experience with valves, so I need advice on how to start?
What should I watch out for first timeI switch it on, what should  I disconnect/remove etc.  Also any diagram on the white thread that changes the position of the red indicator/ needle? Pic tonight
