The posts about TT rebuilds and mods facinate me: unfortuantely I am not very 'handy' so can only marvel at the tools and ideas being put into real constructions. Its amazing how much activity there is in this arena in the digital age where more and more music is going touchless: squeezeboxes, streaming etc.  Personally I enjoy and sometimes really prefer vinyl reporduction with all its 'limitations'. I use stock standard equipment and do not do too much comparisons of turntables anymore. I have 3 turntables and use two in one system and the other in a second system. No favorites but just enjoy them all on occassions when I play them.

I have always (like many enthusiasts) hankered after a Linn Lp 12 and eventually bought one after many years. I always believed this was the upper level of TT's and needed very little to improve it except Linn upgrades. Mine is still at the Valhalla level and not going any further. It works for me as it is, very musical and enjoyable.

There are many more brands out there as we all know and many new stuff also in addition to the major brands from the hey day of Hi Fi in the 80's. I see that Thorens and Lenco seem to be the favoured TT's for builders and upgraders (except Rudi working on the Linn project). What has happened to Garrard stuff or are these no longer in vougue. Its a pity vinyl is so expensive new these days and that second hand vinyl is such a hit and miss affair. The sound of black disc is really special and I can only imagine how these revamped and modded TT's sound and how they maximise the vinyl experience.

Gentlemen keep on trucking and sharing the innovations and ingenuity: fascinating stuff
