Mmmm... MS playing catchup again...
OK so this is perhaps unfair to compare this start-up Bing thingy from Microsoft and perhaps the not so deep pockets of South Africa?s Surveyor General to Google Earth and their brand spanking new satellite... but still it shows handsomely how far Google has come through wit, innovation and, OK deep pockets...
Yes it may have been unfair to compare an area in the relative bundu, as we know it?s not a priority, but it would have been useful for my current project around the little ?dorpie? Kliprivier North of Dullstroom in Mpumalanga...
So let?s add Boksburg aerial photography, compared to Bing and Google Earth as well, well at least on the google I can see that my wetland delineation was accurate...
This constitutes my best efforts to get the highest res data for my purposes from the respective sources... I am human, somebody else may get better done, but I doubt it...
For the record, If you are up to date in your ESRI maintenance you are allowed to use Bing Maps inside your ESRI ArcGIS software package, I?m not sure to what extent though... as i?m busy finding out what the heck is going on with my install... before I can play with this... but maybe nearer Gauteng - you can't do this with google and obviously you can do it with surveyor general photos... However with B-GIS you are allowed to use google earth as a backdrop, to what extent and resolution, I don?t know.
Ofcourse you can download landsat images if you don't require more detail, but nicer data to work with...
