Just pulled this from the DA website, also starting to filter through on some other news sites.
Does anyone know if this is fact? and then if so, what does it mean....?
The Democratic Alliance has claimed that rogue SAPS officers staged a "coup d'etat" in a Limpopo municipality.
According to the party's shadow minister of defence Dianne Kohler Barnard, officers "under the orders of police general Mphalatji" attacked security officers, staff and councillors at the Mogalakwena municipality.
The officers allegedly pointed firearms at them and ordered them to lie on the floor.
"They allegedly arrested the municipal manager, and forced the council to swear in 9 new PR councillors. This meeting had no notice, agenda or democratic mandate and therefore has to be considered illegal."
The party called for Mphalatji and his officers to be thrown out and arrested.
"If this matter is not dealt with appropriately, South Africa is on a slippery slope into anarchy and its democracy is at stake," Kohler Barnard concluded.
