Our quietest member has been building a Mosfet amp and sent me PM for advice. It was the beginning of a long saga resulting in him mailing me the whole thing to try to figure it out. The problem was simple: Counterfeit Mosfets
Here's a pic
I'm a bad photographer but you should be able to make out the sanding marks on the face of the part. If you have the part in your hand these marks are quite obvious. Internally the part is not a Mosfet but appears to be an N channel IGBT. The 2SJ162s bought at the same time seem to be the genuine thing though.
The parts were purchased from Communica in Cape Town. I showed them to Mo at the Samrand head office and he's quite upset. The stock they have here at present looks the same. The order was apparently for a few hundred pieces.
So until the matter is resolved and there is new stock, you'd be wise to source K1058s from elsewhere if you need them.
