I often still see jokes about the fake virus, or typical joke:
Patient: Dr. how long will the virus still be with us?
Dr: I don't know, I'm a doctor not a politician.

Fact is it is not a joke. I saw a few comments already about people who have lost friends due to the virus.

If I may, I want to share some reality, and maybe at the same time also pay tribute to my cousin who's memorial service I cannot attend today.

My cousin (Nico) passed away on Saturday due to complications as a result of Covid-19.
He was a medical doctor in Klerksdorp and also a minister (dominee) in the NG Kerk. He probably contracted the virus as result of his job as medical practitioner. His younger brother, a medical doctor in Bethlehem also had the virus, but luckily he recovered.

Nico was transported per helicopter from Klerksdorp to Johannesburg on 3 August. He was critical, but later went better and it looked positive. Later it turned again and things became worse. Take note that he was in intensive care for weeks, and no visitors was allowed. That must be terrible, for the person lying there and also for his wife and kids. Only the last two or three weeks was he allowed to receive visits from his direct family.

We also received news a few weeks back that his feet were amputated, and he was also going to loose his fingers on his right hand and some of his fingers on his left hand. Unfortunately on Saturday evening his brother shared the message of his passing. RIP dear cousin.

People, take care and be safe. Especially those of you that have to work in close contact with other people.
