Decline of musical literacy

I found this article. While I'm only starting to learn to read music and play piano at age 35, I'd like to believe I instinctively recognise large chunks of modern music as trash. This instinct has now been fleshed out by someone more literate than me.

Out of interest, do you folk play instruments as well?
