DEWAUDIO - MOXEY Magic.
Took my little valve amp to Dewald at Dewaudio. Have had this little Chinese gem for a good number of years, and it it thanks to this amp that I got bitten by the valve bug. This amp was by no means perfect, and its deficiencies became noticeable after spending a hell of a lot more money on valve amps.
It was regulated to doing duty as a headphone amp rigged up to my pre amp, giving me all the inputs; as it only has one, and the use of a remote.
It was fitted with only a mini jack for the headphone output which is grotty.
The wizard Dewald wove his wand over it changed all the internal wiring, upgraded the coupling caps, resistors etc. Cleaned the PC board, hard wired the volume pot, redid all the attempts the Chinese did on the soldering. Adjusted all the Hum pots, replaced the headphone jack, it is now as quite as it gets on my headphones. Left the circuit alone, no point, and a useless exercise starting to think that half the bits inside are not necessary, and ending up with a cup of bits. This amp has been dog reliable runs cool and has driven every speaker I have thrown at it. So why mess with a working thing.
The sound:
I am not going to bore you with all the Audiofool descriptions and analysing ad infernum, till you would rather have your teeth pulled.
To me it is all about the music and my enjoyment thereof.
I popped on a disk where there are only one or two tracks I listen to.
Blow me down with a feather; I listened to every track my foot tapping away; I was up until 2a.m. listening on the headphones in the cold, which went unnoticed as did the arm that went to sleep.
What higher praise and thanks can I shower down on - (ghostinthemachine) - Dewald from DEWAUDIO - MOXEY; suffice to say that he has brought me a new level of music enjoyment, he is great to talk to, the perfect host, and charged me a ridiculously low rate for all his work, in fact so low and reasonable I insisted on giving him more than his asking price. He also fixed some interconnects with those horrible Van Den Hul plugs, and rewired my dear old Pioneer turntable.
Well worth the trip out to Bapsfontein on a cold and bleak Sunday.
Thanks Boet you are a star. :2thumbs: :Whoohoo:
