Just for interrest sake, I thought I'll post this regarding the decibell.
Ever wandered if you can calculate the factor when a decibell value is given to you without a calculator?
easy actually:
0 db = factor 1
3 db = factor 2
10 db = factor 10
therefore:
6 db = factor 4 (twice 3 db)
9 db = factor 8 ( twice 6 db)
and
20 db = factor 100 (10 x 10 db)
30 db = factor 1000 (10 x 20 db)
now lets say you want to know what the factor of 5 db is:
5 db = 3db less than 8 db which is 3 db less than 11.
11 db is 9 db less than 20 db, therefor 1/8th of factor 100 which = 12.5.
thus 9 db = half of that = 6.25 and
5 db = half of that = 3.125.
And thats it
