What's your take on why speakers' woofers are downsizing?
It's now common place to see 6"drivers, but up to 3 or 4.in a cabinet. Recently it was 8". But also more than one.
Is it perhaps because houses/listening areas are becoming smaller? Or that having more than one smaller woofer can be more versatile? I.e. bass, mid-bass, even midrange?
I come from a time where a 12" to 15" woofer was the norm. Only one per cabinet. And they rocked. Vibrating windows - the lot.
As many were musical. Think of Watkins 15" woofers in Infinity speakers. Yes, some had more than 1 driver, imho it was purely to make a statement. And the then woofers were actually easier to drive.
