DSTV Sound and best Decode

I don't know if that is the right terminology.

I want to know when listening to movies on DSTV what the best setting for the amp is - do they broadcast in surround or stereo ?
From my tests last night stereo seemed to be the best setting but then I have a 10 year old amp and only the fronts, center and sub connected. The options I have are Pro Logic, THX, Stereo, Hall, Music, Movie (I think that is all). Would it be the same for listening to VH1/MTV as it would for listening to a movie ?
