Last night I opened up a Yamaha tweeter, JA-0509C, that belongs to an NS-690 III. The speakers were sold to me as "blown". I may write more about them elsewhere. This tweeter was indeed blown. I thought some might find the insides interesting.
The voice coil is edge-wound. This means that the voice coil wire is actually flat like a ribbon and "stacked" spirally such that the voice coil forms its own perpendicular structure. There is no voice coil former, thus reducing moving mass. I did my best to try and take good enough pics, so I apologise that they may not be very good. However, here it is. One of the pics shows the blown-out bit.
