I owned an Edwards Audio MC1/PSU 1 phonostage for about 3 years which I was very happy with. What I did miss was the fact that it had been especially adapted to play my High output Moving coil cartridges and in the near future I would have to use a High Compliance MM cartridge.Seeing a 2nd hand unit of the Musical Surroundings Novo Phenomena Battery Phonostage for sale on Hi-Phibians website which was infinitely adjustable I decided to explore this phonostage.I borrowed it and played a demo unit and after finding the settings which suited my MC cartridge played it for some time however to my ears I had to admit I preferred my MC1/PSU 1 combo.Hi-Phibian requested I return it as he had a possible buyer which I did.I really liked the idea of an infinitely adjustable phonostage. On returning the phonostage he handed me the Edwards MC2 to try.
I connected the MC2 that evening and on playing it immediately notice the difference. The MC2 had more gain than the MC1 .She was more dynamic and had a great deal of slam which really suited my hearing.I even questioned him that night as to what was done to it.He assured me it was stock standard.I have played this phonostage on all different genres of music.Pop,Rock,Jazz Instrumental and male/female vocals.and she has never been found wanting.Even the soundstaging is a vast improvement over the MC1.I am a very happy chappie and when I eventually get my other t/t sorted out with the high compliance cartridge it is a simple matter of plug and play. This phonostage is definitively in a league of it's own.
