So, i was on the XDA DAC pre-order list for a while before they shipped, meaning that i got one of the very first units into the States. The DAC works perfectly, and i'm very happy with it, but when using the volume control the gain factor is sometimes a bit overwhelming.

I noticed that this was a known problem, and that Emotiva has corrected it by reprogramming the unit's linear volume profile to a logarithmic one. This is easily achieved by sending the unit back to emotiva, having them do the programming, and then they send the unit back to you. spot the problem?

Now you guys who bought an XDA recently shouldn't worry about this, as Emotiva has been shipping the DACs with the logarithmic volume profile as standard for the past few months, but i have one of the units from the first batch, and i'm not about to send it back to the states.

So, a couple of weeks ago, i dropped them an email about this. I wondered whether this was something i could DIY, or alternatively something a tech could do for me if he had the proper equipment, or what? They said no, a specialist tool for flashing the eeprom is required, but they'll sort me, what's my address? And just now, out of nowhere, my doorbell rang, and fedex dropped off a brand new full front panel pcboard. Just take out the the old front panel, hook up a couple of ribbon cables, and bob's your uncle. no cost, no nothing.

Good stuff. They've done this before when they sent me that RCA for free when i broke one off at the back of my amp. I'm a happy chappy.
