Hi all,

When I had thomas24's LCD2's on loan I found them absolutely lovely but ultimately lacking in high frequency energy.  To see what they may sound like if voiced more forward, I used JRiver's Equalizer function to fill in frequencies from around 3kHz, by as much as 9 or 10 dB around 10 kHz.  This gave a very satisfying tonal balance, while leaving (at least to my ears) the dynamics and soundstage intact.

On the basis of this positive experience, I decided to also EQ my uDSD / Phonitor / HD800 set-up ... all three highly accurate and detailed devices.  I now trim the frequencies around 6kHz between 1 and 3 dB and in doing so achieved a lovely response that is detailed but non-fatiguing, again with no detectale change in other aspects of the presentation .  When Doge visited last week he went one step further by adding 2dB around 2khZ ... and it changed the character of the set-up yet again.

Now I grew up at a time when balance and tone controls were considered big no-no's for serious audio aficionados, not to mention positively diabolical graphic equalisers.  However my recent experiences with JRiver EQing leaves me hugely impressed.  Not sure if this is because of JRiver's high bit-depth DSP, but the results are truly pleasing, to the point that I will probably not use flat EQ in future unless for hardware evaluation purposes.

Anyone else using this functionality in JRiver (or any other digital platform)?
