Faulty Cable on Sennheiser Adidas PMX680's.

My cable is faulty around the audio jack (the start of the rubber part that holds the jack)for these ear wrapping sports phones. Is there a DIY solution I can use for fixing this problem OR should I just forget about them and buy a new pair? These are 20months old and they have been working for at least 4 times a week.

Please assist because my music sounds like I'm underwater and I can't stand listening to my breathing when exercising :sweat:.
