Fitting bigger tyres

[Dumb and Dumber]

I struggle sometimes with too little ground clearance. My car at some places do scrape a little bit. My current tyres is 225/45/17. I want to next round fit 225/50/17 tyres.
What are all the negatives?
I supose you will wear out your brake pads a bit faster?
