I have a cottage on the banks of the Vaal River, at the local boating club. So it rains and the Vaal Dam gets full of water, which is a reasonable assertion. After it reached 106%, some wise person decided it might be an idea to drain it all at once, instead of already having opened the sluice gates a few days ago and releasing the water in a more controlled manner.
And so the waters came...
The pics above was taken when there were only four and then eight sluice gates open.
Wild life rescue...
This morning (Sunday) there were a total of 19 gates that had been opened and it was impossible to enter the premises unless one had a canoe or similar. All told, the water rose over five metres at the boat club.
