Since selling my home and sort of being freed from the shackles of ABSA I have been looking around for another bank. A lot of folks I have been dealing with on the forum were quite lyrical about how good FNB has been.
Here are my dealings so in trying to apply for a new account. I applied for a new account with them on the 14th of May based on their advertisements of opening an account within 10 minutes online. Well I did so and more than two weeks later I am still waiting for my account to be opened. In the first week I received no communication from then (I assumed my cards were being printed) A week later their call centre started to continuously trying to phone me, which subsequently drops the phone connection upon me answering the phone and then thereafter being bombarded with SMS and email messages to phone their call centre (I have since done and provided them with alternative phone numbers to contact me). I am still no closer to opening an account... Even went to FNB Menlyn Retail Park over the weekend where I had to wait in a queue with 20 people and only 2 FNB employees manning the counters and taking their sweet time. I have since had enough and gave them the Hellopeter treatment. I received a standard PR response and I am still waiting for somebody to call me from FNB. How embarrassing considering their highly publicized ad campaign... I am very disappointed in them. :Ooooooh:
Must say FNB have really innovative products, but it sure doesn't look like they know how to run a bank. ABSA has been terrible at times, but I never have had to deal with such silly crap with them and their banking services have been pretty efficient. Looks like I will be eyeing those FNB smartphone/tablet deals enviously for the time being and hoping ABSA will start copying this pretty soon and release their long awaited smartphone app very soon.
