I'm hoping not to start another mini-"cable thread", but I was wondering who has any thoughts on this globally relevant question...  :sh1tstirrer:

I got a 5mm achromat with my Rega P3 originally. Then I found that an acrylic platter outperformed the glass/achromat combo significantly. I sold the acrylic with the Rega, and kept the achromat on my new (to me, anyway) mid-80's LP12.

Since then I've added Hercules, Cirkus and last week a used Ekos mk1 arm to the deck.

Two weeks ago or so, Rudi and I were messing around on his Linn, and we were amazed to hear that the felt sounded much better than the achromat, despite another friend of mine, who swears by it.

So this weekend I tried the felt vs. the achromat. Initially I could hear what we heard before, more detail was being revealed by the felt. Then I kept listening... And somehow I just realised that the achromat sounded better. More emotion in the music, quieter, I thought the bass sounded better...

So now I'm properly confused. Right now the achromat is firmly back on the deck (also helps that it doesn't stick to the records like the felt). But I'm wondering whether anyone has had similar or different experiences?
