I have a Came brand tip-up garage door device which is no about 10 years old. I bought it from a firm called "TRI"and installed it myself.
TRI has now become bpt aka Regal and want nothing to do with Came as they are only suppliers of hardware and are very shy about offering technical support or even any of their freelance installers' details in Cape Town.
So, a few days ago I had a look at the problem and as suspected, the brushes had worn to the extent that the torsion springs holding the brushes against the commutator had no effect.
I made up new brushes, soldered them with their flyleads to two little brass plates and also made two new springs.
Here, things went a bit wrong. I noticed that the commutator segments were quite pitted and dirty so I removed the motor housing, leaving the armature in place. In order to clean the segments properly, I had to rotate the armature by hand and I think this was a big mistake.
When I assembled everything, the motor now works again but the opening and closing adjustment (accomplished by a red and a white adjustable cam), is now out of adjustment as I moved the armature.
I'm gatvol with all the 'sukkeling'. Does anyone know of a garage door opener installer who works in Cape Town and who can fix the thing for me? Preferably with knowledge of CAME equipment. All the p**phols I called want to install a new opener.
Thanks
