Garrard 301

A friend of mine's Father has given me one of these, although I am not in possession of it yet.

He says the TT has a SME arm and Shure Cart, all original.

I have Googled and found lots of 301's with SME arms, but my question is, did the Gerard come standard SME and if so, which one?
Will it perform better than my current ProJect RPM4?
Is it worth replacing the Shure with an Ortofon 2M Blue?
