I got my Gerdac from Gert during last week, but had to wait till yesterday before I got back home and connected the DAC up.
Now what follows is something I always thought was something people dream up
I connected the DAC and started playing some music, but something was missing! There was virtually no bass! Left it playing whilst unpacking and after about the 8th song, I went back into the living room and the bass was back. So there seems to be some truth in having to "play in" electronic equipment as well
I have had the priviledge to use Shaun's DAC for a few weeks and although I can't say for certain as I have not done a A-B test yet, but it does seem as if the upgraded DAC does uncover even more detail than the original Gerdac. I will try to do some tests this weekend to hear if there really is that much difference between the two.
One major improvement off course is that the new DAC does not have a LED searchlight anymore ;D but rather a subdued blue light.
Maybe I should give my impressions of Potch, Klerksdorp, JHB in the Open forums, but suffice to say that I appreciate Cape Town even more after returning home
