We discovered this morning there's no hot water :(

I must assume the element in the cylinder decide to retire after 35 years of sterling service and requires replacement.

Has anyone here done this job? What is involved besides shutting off the mains and the waterpipe to the cylinder?

I have periodically worked on the cylinder's float mechanism but that's about it.

Obviously, the nonworking element will have to be removed to be matched-up by an electrical goods supplier.

Any tips or advice welcome, please.
