Going Off The Grid

Anyone here that has gonn off the Eskom grid? I have a solar geyser and a gas stove as well as a gas hot water system. I estimate it will cost me around R40000 to get off the grid with a 25 yr guarantee on a solar system.
Electricity cost is unpridictable . Any thoughts?
Also if I use DC without converting to 220v AC for my Hifi gear what are implications and  are the mods , if any,worth it?
