R.I.P. 5 June 2018
Decided to try something new after auditioning the Linkwitz orion active system which didnt suit my taste , looking for something different to my Meridian DSP speakers.
I Have ordered 2 KrK VXT8 topish of the range active monitors and a KrK 10s sub - 8" and 10" woofers respectively.
more important , I have ordered a KRK Ergo system with it.
The sub and active midfield monitors will cover me from 35 - 20khz +- 1.5db ...but the Ergo is the neat piece of gear - it does time and freq room correction (uses lyngdorf's stuff -like TACT - Called "roomperfect") up to 500hz and has 2 modes , focus and global , focus does time and freq , global does Freq only (meant to make the room/speakers sound good at all places , not just listening position)
Apart from RC - the Ergo has analog vol control as well as having the same DAC used in the top of the range transporter by slim devices. Also has analog inputs and uses a 24/96 or a 24/192 AD convertor.
The SPDIF input will handle anything you throw at it , high rez included. Also has a headphone amp. You only need to connect it to a puter when analysing and implementing correction (comes with its own calibrated mic) and then its stand alone.
So basically its a Analog pre/RC/AD/DA/Headphone amp.
My idea is to use a Squeezebox to connect to it , thats all I need.
Total price is R18k , R9600 for speakers , R3600 for sub , R4000 for Ergo + cabling. I have heard the speakers alone and they are impressive. Reall good bass - clean and articulate - great mids and a sweet treble.
Hopefully this will be a real giant killer - that money for pre/rc/amps/speakers etc is not a lot in terms of high end stuff - pro audio is generally much cheaper.
Getting it either Fri or Monday , will post some pics and impressions and set up etc.
One or 2 fly's in the oinkment - no remote control and no SPDIF out (which I wpould have loved to use to try "correct" my meridian speakers - however I do have a top notch 24/96 stand alone AD - so might even try the Ergo via its analog outputs and convert to digitaL with my Z-sys 24/96 AD into my meridians which only take a digital signal.
