just went and picked this stuff up from a buddy - he is lending me some of these old speakers - he had them lying around and was going to use them as rear speakers but he changed his mind and ordered Martin Logan rears instead to match his Martin Logan front speakers - so these were just collecting dust and since he has no use for them ..... right now - though he might in the future - and i just sold my Pioneer whiskey barrel speakers to Siphiwe i needed some speakers to use in the PC system so i have borrowed these to temporarily make the system usable

i have looked for a few reviews and i have found some reviews from around 1992

heres some pics of the speakers - note i just picked them up and i still have to clean them up a bit - they are a trifle bit dusty and definitely show some signs of wear and tear but this is probably normal for an item from circa 1992 - i dont have the grilles but that doesnt really matter - im not overly concerned about how something looks and im more interested in how it sounds - these should be okay cos even though the reviews are not brilliant it has to be remembered that this is not my main system

i will definitely post some pics of them cleaned up (as best as they can be and in the environment im going to use them in - for now they are going to be powered with a Rotel RA-06 integrated amplifier that i got from Koogs - and i also have a turntable that i got from Koogs - just trying this out in the PC setup until i decide if i want to continue with the vinyl adventure and maybe get a slightly newer (more modern) turntable like a Rega or Pro-ject (im definitely not going to go high end with this cos i dont really have a lot of vinyl records .... only around 20 or so)

for now i have been using these with my Dali ikon 2's - this is what the setup looks like - not ideal because it is comparatively nearfield but i keep landing up with speakers with a low sensitivity ie the Pioneers that i was using here previously had a sensitivity of 84 db and guess what - these celestion's also have a sensitivity of 84 db - so they are not the loudest speakers you will ever encounter - so IMHO they will work pretty decently in a near field environment (though this also depends on the off axis response of the speakers and a few other factors) but IMHO you cannot play anything at really loud volume levels if the speakers are so close to you and also so close together - so these should work okay for near field monitoring (on paper at least)

the ikon 2's will go back into the surround system in the lounge - they actually make the system there sound coherent - ive tried other speakers in there and it spoils the setup having different speakers paired with the ikon fronts and centre - hence with these back there the surround sounds a bit better for movie viewing - so i guess i need to think long and hard about what im going to do in the long run because i was considering going stereo in the lounge with the rotel amp and the ikon 7's but im now thinking of staying with the surround system with the big TV and sticking to stereo with the PC/secondary setup - long term though i will need some decent speakers eventually when my buddy wants these celestions back (if they are really good and match well with the amp then i may ask him if he wants to sell them to me  ;) )
