Rudi just finished building me one of his famous AD815 pre-amps, and I managed to pick it up this evening, and let me just say
WOW!!!!
It is un-be-lievable!!!!! There is a realism that cannot be described as anything else besides real. It has given me the impression that my entire system has been upgraded, not just the pre-amp. Depth is deeper and projecting nicely behind the speakers. Listening to Eva Cassidy (Songbird) and Jennifer Warnes (Hunter) has shown that there is also a great improvement in midrange detail, especially with female vocals. With some Infected Mushroom (I'm the supervisor) midbass/bass is found to be tight and super controlled. Diana Krall (Girl in the other room) showed unquestionable detail with brushes on the snare, one can almost count the bristles! Further notable improvements include a 'bigger' stage with improved focus, you get the impression that you could throw a Skittle at the guitarists head and hit it. I am certain that further listening will reveal further subtleties that will make me fall even more in love with this thing.
The only thing that needs some getting used to is the "tick" of the volume display when increasing and decreasing volume, but the volume that I listen to stuff to, you don't hear the "tick" anyways ;D
The unit itself looks really professionally made and is super solid, real care and attention has been paid to this pre-amp.
Thanks again Rudi for helping me out, you're a legend, and thanks for letting me keep the AD823 (I owe you a box of smarties)
