My wife and I always bemoaned the fact that great food that you see on TV programs like "Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives" is not commonly available in South Africa.
One of our AVForums Veteran's leonpjhb ( http://www.avforums.co.za/index.php?action=profile;u=1138 ). Has started a great restaurant called The Countess n Mellville. It serves some of the tastiest food I have had in a long time.
Had Sunday lunch there last week and we enjoyed it so much we decided to go again Friday night and take our kids and their partners with.
They all loved it!! The theme of the restaurant's decor is Steam Punk, casual and has a very continental atmosphere.
http://www.thecountess.co.za/ is the restaurants home page and the menu is here: http://www.thecountess.co.za/Menu/
The food looks great and interesting. Try the sticky pork ribs out of the smoker. Meals are served with choices of home made pickles, they are great!!!
Some interesting items: Rib Eye with butter & thyme, Slow cooked yams topped with marshmallows, Mung beans, garlic butter and pickled carrot,200g Beef Burger made from lean mince & oxtail fat served on a brioche bun with greens.
Prices are reasonable. They are still waiting for a liquor licence so you are welcome to "Bring Your Own". We took some beers and Red wine.
With four youngsters in there 20"s food is consumed in quantity but a great meal for 6 was just over R800.00 Very reasonable in my opinion.
Highly recommended!!!!
