Vereeniging ? Two murder and hijacking suspects have been arrested after they placed an advert for the sale of a hijacked trailer on Gumtree that was noticed by the owner, police said on Thursday.
The two suspects, aged 30 and 36, were arrested on Wednesday after police arranged to meet with the "sellers".
"The owner of the hijacked truck and trailer was perusing through Gumtree when he noticed a trailer that looked exactly like his. The owner then alerted police who arranged to meet with the sellers in Vereeniging," said Captain Mavela Masondo.
It is alleged that the truck pulling a low bed trailer was hijacked in May this year and its driver was found murdered in Ikageng, North West, the following day, Masondo said. "Police are still in search of the truck," he said.
Masondo said preliminary investigations revealed that the trailer, worth R660 000, was the one hijacked in the North West.
During the arrest of the suspects police also seized a Nissan Navara that is suspected to have been used to commit the crime.
Police advised the community to be extra careful when purchasing second-hand goods because it could be stolen goods ? which can put buyers in trouble.
"The arrested suspects will be appearing in the Gauteng and North West magistrate's courts in due course," Masondo said.
