Took those Infinity floorstanders and Pioneer A209 amp to my friend's place last night, hooked it up and turned it on.
And he went, ok, it's nice. And then we sat and chatted and this and that and he started listening more to his music, and his face slowly changed to amazement as he realised he was hearing old songs as if for the first time...
"it's a revelation" ... "it sounds like the instruments are more clear and separated"... "it's incredible"... "thank you!"...
It's a big room (two adjoining rooms open to each other along half the width of one wall , each about 5m high, 4m*5m) and tiled with lots of reflective surfaces and little damping, and the Infinitys sounded really good (although still plugged the port as it gets a monotone looseness in the low bass).
Happy as Larry now - for a total cost of R1600. He doens't mind the dents in the dust caps
