What tips can ye wise ones give us to have a tube preamp transformer wound locally ? I know next to nothing about transformer winding and don't know what would make a superb tube pre transformer that allows room for experimentation .
1. Option of making it pre with phonostage , capable of handling up to 6x 9-pin double triodes ( won't necessarily be 6 , but just in case )
2. Should the transformer have 6,3V and 12,6V taps , or can tubes with 12,6 filaments just be wired in parallel with 6.3V ? Or would it be better to have them wired in series with 12.6V ? Both ? More taps ?
3. Should one make the HT voltages centre-tapped to allow option of Tube or solid-state rectification ?
4. Can one easily have different HT taps to allow for different operating points ? eg. 150-120-100-0-100-120-150
5. What current for HT to allow sufficient headroom for playing with different circuits ? 200mA ?
6. What is potting ? Dip the entire transformer in transformer varnish and stick it in a vacuum chamber to suck all the air out from between the windings , and the varnish into those gaps ?
7. Does one laminate between wound layers , or is that just for output transformers ?
