I recently upgraded JRiver from 19 to 29 and was interesting to see that they have offered HDCD playback from MC26. After analyzing all the files on my media PC I ended up with 10 HDCD tagged albums. Turning HDCD playback on and off was interesting and revealed that HDCD playback is worthwhile on HDCD encoded files. With HDCD turned off the albums appear to sound louder, however turning HDCD playback on reveals that they sound quieter due to the expanded dynamic range. I found it a worthwhile excercise, just a pity that there are so few HDCD CD's around.
