I've been looking into what it takes to build a sound system that can be spread across my entire home. Each area will have a pair of speakers, and there are 10 areas.

Each area must be manually controllable, and I am looking at a PC/tablet solution to manually control each area (not an amp with 10 stereo channels). Budget is of higher concern than sound quality. (Please dont suggest R15k amps) For each area, I am looking at having a pair of speakers and a mini-amp. I have seen some mini-amps as cheap as R276 (2 x 20W RMS).

For the audio source, I'm looking at either multi-channel sound cards, or usb stereo sound cards. Each usb card shows up as its own sound card. Then I just have to find an app that allows me to control each sound card. The app doesnt need to be free, I'm happy to pay for it if the service justifies the price. There must be support for being able to play different tracks to different areas at the same time, though more than 3 tracks at once is over kill.

I'm looking at using standard cheap 10" car speakers. I'm trying to figure out how to mount them. I dont want to create holes in my roof, so I'm thinking of using a box for each speaker, and mounting them where the roof meets the wall, centre of the wall on opposite sides of the room.

So my questions are these:
(1) Are there other threads that cover this topic that I should be reading?
(2) Am I on the right track with regards to the overall design? What are the pitfalls and alternatives to what I'm planning?
(3) Are there other mini-amps that you guys can suggest?
(4) Are there any sound cards (usb or internal) that your'll can suggest?
(5) Are there better ways to mount the speakers? Ideally I would like to mount them in the roof itself, but the roof holes are a problem if I remove the system.

Thanks!
