Hi All,
I have recently moved (again) and will soon be moving out of dreaded hotels and into more permanent accomodation. I need help in deciding what's going to be the best way to setup my gear in my lounge and was hoping to hear some opinions of the folk here with much more knowledge then me.
Here is the floorplan I whipped up quickly in powerpoint, the drawing is not to scale but I think it's pretty close. I'll put in a few pics as well so you can have a better understanding.
As you can see the apartment is not complete but will be shortly where-after I will move in with my container full of household contents.
What I need to find space for is:
1. 50" Plasma
2. Amp, CD P, PS3 and media PC - I may build some new cabinets for them tho if necessary as they all currently fit in my current cabinet which is approx 2 metres wide.
3. 2 floorstanders, 1 centre, 2 surrounds and 2 subs for a 5.2 setup
4. A dining room table and chairs (6 chairs, not too big)
5. A 3 seater couch
6. A matching 2 seater couch
7. If possible, but not compulsory as I wouldn't mind it in the bedroom is a full HD projector. But I think the bedroom is the better option as not many walls available here.
A few things to note, WAF factor is not an issue, I live alone. I'm really keen on movies so getting the full 5.2 setup done well is a quite a big factor for me. And lastly, I do like to cook alot, so it would be nice if I could get things setup well so that if I am cooking in the kitchen I can still interact with my friends in the lounge, but I really don't think this is possible.
And here's the picture facing the larger wall (ie away from the kitchen, the kitchen is on the left of the photo-taker):
And here's the wall near by to the kitchen (Kitchen entrance is on the right under the arch) :
Needless to say once everything is done and sorted I will post some pics and things in the members kit thread for all to see.
OK, now in terms of setup I was thinking of 2 options:
Option 1: Put the TV and stand directly in front of the door (down away from the kitchen in the roomier side, ie. the first picture) but leave a metre or so gap so that I can still get around to the door for the balcony if I want. This way I also get the floorstanders away from the wall for better sound placement. Subs I can play with and see. Surround speakers can go up on the walls no problems. This of course does eat quite a bit into the space so I am not sure if it's ideal.
Option 2: Put the TV directly up on the wall by the guest bathroom and put the speakers each side of the doorway. Not ideal for speaker placement but it would work. The surrounds might be a challenge as there isn't really enough wall so to say to put them up correctly behind the prime sitting/listening location. Also then there is the risk that it's directly under the airconditioner and if that leaks water then i'm fooked... Lastly, from the dining roon side TV viewing might not be that good but I don;t really care, if you are watching you do it from the lounge not the dining room
So, any thoughts, comments, ideas etc please?
Do you need the speaker/amp model numbers (if it would make any difference?)
