Hi Everyone,
I need a new stylus for my Grace F9 cartridge.
My current stylus works fine, and sounds good, but the cantilever is slightly bent, and I am worried that it may not sound as good as it could!?
(Actually, it does not look like the cantilever itself is bent - it looks like the straight cantilever comes out of the stylus housing "at an angle?").
The current (original) stylus is this one:
The bent is slight - if the cantilever should "hang down" in the 6 o' clock position, mine is in the 7 0' clock position.
The original stylii are not available any longer. SoundSmith in the USA has a replacement for more than my entire estate is worth, so not an option.
There is this guy in Florida, in the USA, who, from time to time, sells replacement stylii. He does not have any right now.
But:
He sources a replacement that is a different stylus, and then:
"we remove two tabs from the original housing".
"they came in red, white and mostly black".
"the shank and the magnets line up perfectly in the Grace F9 cart".
"it sounds very good, as good as the original".
Here are a few pictures of the "replacement" stylus (tabs cut away, etc.).
Can any of our esteemed Forum members identify the "donor" stylus? I would like to try and source one (or more) myself, remove the "tabs" and try it out on my Grace F9!
All help and advice greatly appreciated, as always.
regards,
Johan
