I have a Musical Fidelity F25. An obscure (but good) preamp, the predecessor to the kWPre.
It is just not sounding right, and there is a huge channel imbalance at low volumes, which leads me to believe that the volume pot has seen better days. i have tried cleaning, to no avail.
Also, the volume is very sensitive at the bottom end of the adjustment range, which is an issue with high output CD players.
My questions:
1. Is my diagnosis correct?
2. The pot is ALPS, 434N, 50KAX2 - is there a replacement which will give more linear volume control. Indeed, is there a replacement at all?
3. Where would I find such a replacement.
Thanks
Sean
