Hi All,
After a lengthy absense, I am back on the forum and re-igniting my interest in Hi-Fi
I have just purchased a Pioneer PL-430 turntable, which is in fairly nice nick. (80's vintage direct drive?)
It is fitted with an Audio Technica cartridge - red in colour, not sure of the model number?
I find the sound a bit hollow (the arm / cartridge is quite microphonic) and lack in overall extension and detail.
For what is a cheapish turntable, would it be worth upgrading the cartridge to something better that would be a straight fit? Is so any recommendations?
I'm using a Rega Mira 3 amp so think the phono stage is gairly decent and Wharfedale Diamond 9.1 75th anniversary edition speakers (sound good when using Rega Apollo CDP or digital from MAC)
Any thoughts / help appreciated!
Regards,
