Reading the thread about Hi-fi Exchange in Harrison Street Jhb and especially the most recent post about the hi-fi shop in Sunnypark, Pretoria got me reminiscing. I spent many hours at Hi-fi  Installations in Die Meent dreaming about those S.A.E. amps, KEF speakers and the like. Audiophile in Polley's Arcade - B & W pre yellow  cone times, Dali n's across the road from Die Meent. Three great shops within a few hundred metres. Now we are very lucky if we find one in a whole town. I spent a lot of time with Andre Strydom at his shop in all three locations. By the time he was at Atterbury I had money to buy a few things too: some Steinhart stuff, Cambridge Audio. Even sold him my McIntosh set for his little museum there.

Salesmen were all characters. When as a teenager one of them asked me what I wanted to do with my life and my response was "work in a hi-fi shop" I couldn't understand the odd look he shot me!

Then there was the shop in Hatfield Plaza - was it Audio Counsel? Marius was the guy there, I think. There was a shop upstairs in Brooklyn Mall too, near where the MTN shop is now. They had a second hand set of the Pioneer Reference stuff there - I should have bought that! Memories.....
