English is not my first language. Me being an accident and my siblings being much older than me, I was exposed to their music from an early age. That resulted in me experiencing music differently. I learned to listen to the melody of the music, where the sound of the words, made part of the melody. They had no meaning as I could not understand the words.
Subsequently, I was "thought" to listen to music differently, words were just sounds. The melody comes first, the composition, etc. Even today when I listen to music and I can understand the lyrics, I just do not listen to them.
Once I told a co-worker, I really like the song. Later I listened to the words and I cringed.
How do you listen and experience your music?
