I'm toying with the idea of putting all my music onto a HDD and then playing it through a media player. I already have many downloaded albums and will then rip my CDs. Question is, are media players just pass-through devices, or do they 'colour' sound?
Of course, I'm going to consider a decent DAC too. Sorry, I wasn't impressed with the CA Dacmagic
. Perhaps some other suggestions in about the R5k price range?
Only players i really know of is the WDTV media player and mede8er. I'm mainly going to be using it for music. Must play FLAC files as well. I'm looking for something reliable. I may or may not play movies through the player at a later stage. Any comments/suggestions.
What user-friendly (read " I'm new to this") alternatives are there? What does a media streamer do differently?
