Hi all
Any ideas ?
I read connecting multimeters can burn a cart.
I have this cart that behaves very funny..
Plays both channels , then just one , then you swop L&R and it distorts on one side etc...
Then found these silly audio quest balanced XLR connector with a loose wire inside and thought ahaaaa, but after soldering it, the one channel is now completely dead...
Not sure if it is the wire I soldered , or something with the tonearm or the cart or the phono stage...

Also , I have a cart with no name or brand and how would I know how to match it with a phonostage perhaps ?
Will a phonostage or cart damage if you connect it to each other not correctly matched ( i.e mc to mm or bise versa) in terms if this MV outputs and kohms specs etc....?

I'd like to test these carts , left and right channels and see what they are outputting...without having to mount them to headshell...
One is a MC , the other is a no name( not sure mm or mc)...
But I would like to test it without mounting and remounting etc...

Pretty Pls answer to a non electrician 😄.
I have some sort of multimeter , but don't even know how to use the thing and scared to try after I read that some people say the smoked carts using these methods.

Will also appreciate to learn how to do something like this all on my own , but no risky business pls can't afford to even replace a broken cart.

Tx in advance
