For some time now I've been playing around with the speaker setup of my HT.
So thought I'd ask some opinions on what would work best to set everything up.

My current configuration I have:
Fronts, Surrounds: Wharfedale Xarus 5000's
Center: Wharfedale Xarux Center
DIY Sub: 12" driver, ported to 19.2hz, still gives 16hz at decent SPL.

So for a while I had this configurations running all in small speaker mode.
Then I started playing with setting the fronts to Large, this made a wide sound stage,
but took away too much from the small center.  So I turned the center up to play
at a rate that was acceptable for me.

Now the thing that is troubling me is, when viewing the scene in Master & Commander before
they go into the fog, I noticed that the cannons sound a lot differently and much more impressive.
There are 3 scenes I'm going to point out, 1:  Where a shot is fired and that ringing sound disappears
there is thump there that I didn't notice, 2: just before they go below deck to where the water is streaming
in there was an extra cannon shot, and 3: which is by far the most noticeable is when he says "on the up row, FIRE"
The cannon shoots back and apart from the explosion on the cannon the force at which it travels back and hits the stand
that it is in also creates another thump, and then when they view the cannons of the other ship through the cannons firing
position you feel the cannons more realistic like as they fire.

When they are set to small though, i feel that the cannons are more devastating and powerful.

Any ideas on what or how would be best to configure my HT?

Also I'm running fronts+surrounds large with own bass management, and sub only playing sub channel not fronts.
