I am more interested in and use mainly 2 channel stereo equipment for a number of years now, a music lover basically. At most I have amplified TV signal through a two channel system of sorts just for bigger, better sound - works very well for me and quite enjoyable. I read with interest the joys experienced by HT enthusiasts and can only imagine the effects and slam one gets from multi channel systems when watching modern movies which have all these things included (HDMI, Dolby xyz...). I also notice that many folks are less than happy with HT amps and their volume and power ratings. I am sure you get what you pay for as with most other things
What has surpised me was how critical the centre speaker seems to be in such systems - I suppose its for the all important dialogue that movies have (except the Artist of course). What has surpised me even more is the cost of these centre speakers and the most recent shock to me is that they go for second had at R25K!!! My whole system did not cost and is not worth that much. Maybe I should visit more friends with high end HT to understand but its a bit heavy for me to understand. I get voices in that central space using stereo amplification for movies and its very realistic. Sounds are also positioned as on screen: doors close on the right if it happens to be so and car drives off to the left and dissapears etc.
Maybe my stereo bias and lack of exposure to good HT systems is a problem - is that so? Or do I have other problems
