I recently installed a solar water heater based on good advice I got here https://www.avforums.co.za/index.php/topic,91967.0.html
The savings are real and immediate. Our consumption has dropped from low 30 to mid teen units per day (family of six). The nifty little Geyserwise units tell me I've used only 15kWh in 20 days for water heating.
I now want to take my off grid plans to the next level with a hybrid solar system. I reckon a 3kWp system should be OK as a loadshedding solution and coat saver, provided we don't use kettle, stove or iron during loadshedding.
So what are the do's and don'ts? Which panels? Inverter? Batteries? If anyone with recent experience could give some guidance I'd really appreciate it.
