Variety is the spice of life, so they say.

Once in a while I feel like a change of routine and the other day I looked at some deurmekaar racks in my workshop and saw I had 2 Bang & Olufsen model 1900's stashed in there. Can't remember where I bought them and decided to have a look at them.

Both were complete and both had lids which were cracked on the right side which I may get repaired.

So I started cleaning machine #1 and first fitted some rca jacks and an earth tag to make hook up to non B&O amps easy.

Next up I replaced a 10nf capacitor and 10 ohm resistor with new items and finally got to the asynchronous motor which was seized rock solid after sitting in my rack for 15+ years.

After a complete stripdown and rinse of the floating bush bearings, I added some Elna sewing machine oil and re-assembled it.

The speed is spot on and ole Nat K Cole is crooning sweetly in my lounge.

The deck is automatic and its functions are completely mechanical with spindly steel wires operating the various cams and gears underneath - a minor miracle of Norwegian engineering elegance and simplicity - no bloody steuerpimpels to frustrate my life.
