It is with utmost concern that I look at the worsening exchange rate - especially in respect of how it going to impact on future high end audio purchases.
I am saving up for a big ticket item but at the moment the Rand is falling faster than what I can save.
My impression is that new items are slowly becoming outrageously expensive and second hand items are priced to low. I recently saw a Thorens TT which I am certain went through Alternative Route's workshop on eBay being advertised for $8000-00+. It seems there is serious profit to be made out of quality second hand items and local hardware production.
The big question is how does the average working (non mega-rich) audiophile navigate the current financial environment?
Are the big dealers going to do "specials" for the local audiophiles ?
