R.I.P. 5 June 2018
My new speakers have the tweeters and midrange units well above ear level , the speakers compensate in DSP in various ways and have a dispersion pattern that takes the height into account , their is also a virtual tilt as well as the capability to tilt the head physically.
I was using my office chair with height, swivel and tilt as a listening chair as well for at my desk , was proving a pain rolling it back and forth and finding the exact position where it sounded good,so I decided to revisit my armchair
After a lot of speaker fiddling , this too was unsuitable as is too low slung , uncomfortable despite it looking comfy , and the back comes up past the ears. Tried raising it on granite slabs , but its still not ideal..
Anyway I been searching for something fixed with the correct height and back , not that much out there and the price for the Eames chair (which I liked) in vinyl is crazy (R8.5k) ,managed to at last find something , high enough off the ground , leather , low back and it is really comfortable to boot.
I'm keeping it in a relatively fixed position and am going to tune the speakers and their bass response around it , so far without too much frommeling around , initial impressions are rather good...imaging has improved as well as tonal balance.
Got it from Helderberg Importers in CT - its R3800 inclusive , only problem is it only comes in green and burgundy , would have preferred black.. it's not a perfect with the other decor , but will have to do..
Here's some pics
Here you can see how high the speakers are
Old armchair
New Chair - needs to break in a bit
